Burroughs quote

And the sight which met my eyes was that of a slender, girlish figure, similar in every detail to the earthly women of my past life... Her face was oval and beautiful in the extreme, her every feature was finely chiseled and exquisite, her eyes large and lustrous and her head surmounted by a mass of coal black, waving hair, caught loosely into a strange yet becoming coiffure. Her skin was of a light reddish copper color, against which the crimson glow of her cheeks and the ruby of her beautifully molded lips shone with a strangely enhancing effect.
She was as destitute of clothes as the green Martians who accompanied her; indeed, save for her highly wrought ornaments she was entirely naked, nor could any apparel have enhanced the beauty of her perfect and symmetrical figure. -- E.R. Burroughs' description of Dejah

Comic Book Covers: Dejah Thoris and the Green Men of Mars

There are several comic books/graphic novels being made, now that the first five Barsoom books are in
the public domain. I'll present a few of the covers here.

The first is from the Dejah Thoris and the Green Men of Mars series of comic books, written by Mark Rahner with the artwork done by Lui Antonio and published by Dynamite Comics. The covers are all by Jay Anacleto.

I like Jay's stylistic choices for her jewelry and her pistol especially. Since she has no belt to speak of, I like the idea of a chain around her neck to keep the pistol.

Here is #2. The pile of green martian bodies is a nice touch, and the purple modesty panel scarf the billows behind her is interesting in its placement.

And we move on to #3. DT is in a bit of a pickle, though you'll notice that she hasn't been disarmed.
Looks like she might have enough range of motion in those chains to gut the careless martian.

Dejah Thoris from John Carter movie

I found the John Carter movie to be very entertaining, and reasonably true to the story of the first book, the only book of the series I've read. I liked the acting and the script, the special effects were well-done, and the digital characters were appealing.

Here is Dejah Thoris preparing for her wedding. The cubist chandeliers were lovely.

My biggest issue with the movie was the amount of clothing worn. Too much, though the style felt right. The henna-style tattooing was an excellent addition. See the previous post to see a costume of this look.

Here's a nice adventuring look. I like the bones in the background. The leather woven top is sweet. The style is right, and I understand Disney's reluctance to put her in pasties and gold chains. Still, Lynn Collins would have looked great in pasties and gold chain.

And she can handle a sword!

I leave you with Dejah Thoris and John Carter. He did the role well and looked the part. Ciao!

Dejah Thoris Cosplay

Dejah Thoris is becoming more popular for cosplay, much to my delight. Here is a great costume and pose by Valerie Perez. #cosplay

The pose seems too similar this pose by DrixArt to be an accident.

Here's Dejah (costumer/model unknown) taking a selfie.

Here she is having a cocktail (Valerie Perez again).

Here's one based on the John Carter movie's Dejah Thoris. Costumer and model is Rukiii.

Today's Dejah Thoris

This is a lovely black and white illustration by artgerm. The hair and the moons are highlights for me.

New Blog Devoted to Dejah Thoris

I've decided to start a Dejah Thoris Tribute Page, presenting the best images of the lovely Red Martian princess of the city of Helium. Here is a lovely image by Paul Renaud. He has many more images of her.

I love the notion of chains as clothing.
